It’s no secret that the future of construction is aimed toward sustainability. With every new project comes new challenges and the need for innovative ideas that can incorporate green practices into building designs. For this reason, Construction Management degree programs have started to educate students on these sustainable practices and encourage them to ‘think green’ when developing new ideas. This is now an integral part of setting students up for success in their future careers.

Building a Brighter Future

To ensure that students have the most effective and thorough background in sustainability and green design, Everglades University partnered with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) to create coursework that encompasses these ideas.

EU also forged a partnership with Pearson in 2016 to offer a sustainability course as part of the required curriculum in not just the Construction Management program, but in all EU undergraduate degree programs. After completing this course, students receive a certificate from the United States Green Building Council.

Through this same initiative, students enrolled in the Construction Management program are prepared to sit for the tests required to receive LEED certification. Having completed this certification ensures that students are fully equipped to begin their careers—and gives them higher value to future employers. This also sets EU students apart from their peers in other degree programs, as they will have already completed this certification as part of their degree program rather than spending time after graduation to sit for the exam.

The Construction Management program at Everglades University has been named one of the Best Online Degrees in Environmental Science. With constant innovation toward conservation and sustainability, it’s no surprise that EU boasts two major awards for their efforts in going green. The school’s Sarasota campus has won two awards for its conservation efforts and sustainable practices.

As the Education Winner at Green Arrow Awards, Everglades showed unparalleled innovation by utilizing the school’s solar lab to produce sustainable energy. EU also won the Business of the Year award from the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (known as the LEEDership Award) in 2013 for their work with solar energy on campus—as well as their Alternative and Renewable Energy Management program.
