Students of Everglades University are lucky in that they have a variety of campus locations across the state of Florida to choose from. With five campuses and an online division, Floridians are able to get their degree no matter what part of the state they call home. Unfortunately, even with the options, some students are still a bit far from the main campus. Because of this, many students will opt to receive their degree online, allowing them more flexibility and less time wasted commuting. Others, though, like the idea of learning in a classroom and need the in-person experience to feel committed to their studies.

If you do choose to attend classes at an Everglades campus and have a commute to class, there are things you can do to make that commute easier—and more productive.

Download Educational Podcasts

Are you getting your degree in business? Consider downloading some business-focused podcasts to listen to on your way to class. Podcasts are a great way to pass the time and there is no better place to listen than in the car, bus, or train. Choosing ones that are for pure entertainment are great, but opting for educational ones that relate to your studies will prepare you for the class and get you motivated. You may also learn a thing or two along the way.

Listen to an E-Book

Similar to podcasts, e-books are always a great way to pass the time during your commute. If any of your school textbooks are available in e-book format, consider downloading them and listening during your drive. Not only will this cut down on your homework time after class, it will also make your commute a productive time of the day, making it seem less daunting.

Meditate

If you aren’t the one behind the wheel (you take a train, bus, Uber or other method of public transportation), consider using the commute time to meditate and relax. Download an app that leads you through a meditation process and use the time to find inner peace. This will prepare your mind for any upcoming tests you may have and will help to eliminate any stress you may feel.

Learn a New Language

This may seem like a daunting task, but learning a new language is often as simple as taking the time to do it. In the car with a long ride ahead of you is the perfect time to learn a new skill. Use an app to help guide you and use your commute to learn slowly—before you know it, you’ll be speaking a brand new language. Similarly, you can also listen to podcasts that teach other skills, such as personal development.

Make it “You” Time

Listen to your favorite songs (on repeat), enjoy a suspenseful novel (just for fun) or take the time to have a moment of peace and quiet. Whatever you need to do to have “you” time, find a way to do it during your commute. Yes, driving or riding public transit isn’t always easy, but once you’re settled, it can be the perfect time to do the things you love.
