For many students entering into a University, it may be difficult to decide exactly what you want to study. For those opting to advance their career, the path may be clearer, while for those looking to begin or change their career, it can be a difficult process. But, no matter how well you know your chosen path, the decisions become a bit more difficult when choosing a concentration within your degree.

A concentration is a specific focus within a wider degree program. Many programs at Everglades University have concentrations built in the degree that allows students to choose a concentration that best fits their career needs. Students will still receive the general education courses that go along with their degree program, but they will also be able to take more concentrated courses that fit with their specific focus.

For example, Our Bachelor of Science with a Major in Aviation/Aerospace has six concentrations beneath it. We provide these different concentrations because the field of aviation and aerospace is diverse and they allow students to gain a specific education on their desired field of work. Some students may want to work in aviation security, while others are more interested in flight operations—we make sure to provide courses for all of these students.

How do you choose a concentration?

Choosing a concentration may be easier for some than it is for others. Many students entering into Everglades University know exactly what path to take. If you are looking for advancement within your field, pick the concentration that mirrors what you already do. But, if you want to make a change or begin a new career, the decision can be a bit more difficult.

The first step is to figure out the degree program you are interested in. Do you see yourself working in construction? Or are you more interested in the environment? Once you figure this out, do research on the concentrations available to you within that program. You may stumble on a focus that you didn’t know existed, and it could launch you into a lucrative and enjoyable career.
